Meet Jae Kwak, DDS, PhD
In 2000, Dr. Jae Kwak earned an Engineering PhD in electrical and bioengineering. After working in the field for quite a few years, he realized he needed a career that enabled him to help others and connect with people on a personal level. When he was 33 years old, he returned to college.
In 2007, Dr. Kwak completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He completed a general practice residency at Memorial Hermann Hospital. During the residency program, he received advanced training in providing dental care for medically and mentally compromised individuals in hospital settings.
Dr. Kwak constantly strengthens his clinical skills and broadens the services he’s able to provide patients. Through continuing education, he has completed LVI courses in cosmetic dentistry. He has also completed many hours of postgraduate studies in dental implant surgeries and restorations, as well as dental care for anxious patients using Level II sedation. He is an active member of the American Dental Association and the Greater Houston Dental Society.
Drawn to restorative care, Dr. Kwak desires to give patients beautifully healthy and stable smiles. He finds the greatest professional and personal reward when he’s able to successfully restore dental function and beauty for a patient, and increasing the person’s self-esteem and confidence.
A native of Daegu, South Korea, Dr. Kwak has lived in Texas for more than 20 years and in the Katy/Houston area for a decade.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Kwak loves exercising and playing sports, especially tennis and golf. He works out several times a week, and spends many Sundays on golf courses. He loves to travel, spend time with his family and good friends, play the guitar, decorate, and cook.
In addition, Dr. Kwak participates in many church-related activities, including volunteering with the elderly and teaching youth.
Meet Setrag Dermendjian, DMD, DDS, MS, MBA, MACP
Dr. Setrag Dermendjian was born in Damascus, Syria, to an Armenian family and attended an Armenian Catholic High School.
He graduated in 1993 from the Yeveran State University Dental School in Armenia with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine. Then he completed a certificate of specialty in advanced prosthodontics in 1996 and a Master of Science in laminate porcelain veneers research in 1998, also at the Yerevan State University Dental School.
In 2008, Dr. Dermendjian graduated from the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, California with a certificate of specialty in advanced prosthodontics. He completed an MBA in health science at University of La Verne graduate school in Los Angeles.
Dr. Dermendjian has practiced dentistry and prosthodontics since 1996, in Armenia and in the United States. He stays current on advances in his specialty through continuing education courses and participation in conferences, lectures, and seminars. Dr. Dermendjian lectures and gives presentations himself, as well.
He is always traveling to attend gatherings and to teach. Dr. Dermendjian has lectured at the National Institute of Health in Armenia, at the International Academy of Endodontics in Dallas, and at the Glendale Academy of Dentistry in Los Angeles. His specialty is full-mouth rehabilitation, and he works closely with Dr. Tanya Saour, an orthodontist, to treat complex cases.
Dr. Dermendjian is an active member of the Armenian Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontists, and Global Institute of Dental Education. He is also part of the Alumni of Sleep Apnea Dental Group, Dr. James Metz.
As a prosthodontist, Dr. Dermendjian has a passion for aesthetics: striving to restore health and function, and strengthen his patients’ smiles, and in doing so give them confidence. He wants each patient to have a healthy, happy life, full of smiles.
Dr. Dermendjian speaks Armenian, Arabic, Turkish, French, German, Russian, and English.
